FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK -- Thelen LLP, an international law firm, presented a significant and informative seminar May 20 titled, "Breaking the Ice: Managing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the Workplace".
Jo Anne C. Adlerstein, who heads the firm's Immigration practice, had this to say: "We are living in a period of zealous law enforcement. Our clients read about the recent ICE raids on meat packing plants and restaurants, and need to understand why no U.S. employer is exempt from government scrutiny. Workplace enforcement is now entwined with day-to-day employment policies."
Ms. Adlerstein, who was recently featured in the New Jersey Law Journal on "Immigration Angst for Corporate Counsel", headed the seminar by providing a summary of immigration policies and visas. Thelen associates Shirley Tang and Frederick W. Strasser covered immigration and enforcement, respectively, while Jennifer Persico, special counsel, ended the program with a discussion on employment law interface covering relevant federal laws for workforce recruitment and hiring.
Approximately 60 attendees from companies such as Mandarin Oriental, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Bertelsmann and AXA Equitable, among others, were educated on various immigration guidelines and enforcement issues. Steven Conte, Director of Human Resources at Mandarin Oriental, said: "Today's program was very enlightening, and validated many issues and topics I deal with on a regular basis. I appreciate the invitation."
Thelen's Washington, DC office also held an Immigration Seminar on Thursday, May 15, which covered the same topics as the New York event and was well received.
