OAKLAND, CA (September 14, 2007)—Up to 30 attorneys from Thelen LLP, including firm Co-Chairman Stephen V. O’Neal, will participate in the Breast Cancer Fund’s “Bike Against the Odds—Tour de East Bay”, biking up to 100 miles to raise money for breast cancer research.
The ride will begin at Oakland’s Lake Merritt, wind through Downtown Oakland and continue on into the East Bay Hills. Riders can choose to ride routes of 30, 47, 72, or 100 miles with up to 10,000 feet of climbing.
Commercial Litigation partner Ronald Lopez and associate Kathleen Kizer will each ride the full 100 miles. Attorneys tackling the 72-mile course include Labor and Employment partners Seth Neulight and Robert Dolinko, and Construction Chairman John Heisse. Up to 400 riders are expected to participate in the 5th Annual Event.
Thelen’s goal is to raise $250 per rider to benefit breast cancer research, and the firm hopes to take the show on the road by participating in similar events across the country where the firm has offices.
“We are hoping to inspire folks in all of our offices worldwide to support our colleagues’ riding goals and sponsor them,” said New York Business and Finance partner Kimberly Reisler, who led the Thelen effort.
Co-Chairman O’Neal, who will bike 30 miles, said the large number of participants is representative of the firm’s commitment to charitable causes in the Bay Area and nationally. Thelen recently raised more than $14,000 for the San Francisco Aids Walk Foundation and last week donated more than 175 backpacks filled with school supplies to the Children of Harlem’s PS 133. An additional 73 backpacks were delivered to needy children in Hartford, Connecticut.
“Thelen has been part of the Bay Area community for more than 80 years and a commitment to charitable causes through our ‘Thelen Cares’ program has always been a hallmark of the firm,” Mr. O’Neal said. “We want to do our part to reduce the risk of this horrible disease.”
Location: Lakeside Park, Lake Merritt, Oakland
Date: Sunday, September 16, 2007
